About Rob Finnegan
Rob began his career 33 years ago with Ernst & Young in Dallas, Texas. Rob served as Audit Senior with clients in healthcare, food products, food processing, industrial supply, construction, real estate, and banking. Rob has since served as CFO and/or Chief Development Officer for healthcare services operations ranging from start-ups to Fortune 150 companies.
Rob received the 2016 Leadership Recognition Award from the Chairman and CEO of Tenet Healthcare Corporation (“Tenet”) for having developed and operated Tenet’s Ambulatory Surgery Division (“ASD”). Rob then merged the ASD with United Surgical Partners International (“USPI”) in May 2015 making Tenet the nation’s largest operator of short stay surgical facilities with 244 ambulatory surgery centers, 90 urgent care centers, 23 imaging centers, and 20 surgical hospitals with 50 not-for-profit health system partners and over 14,000 employees in 28 states and the United Kingdom. Tenet did not operate surgery centers in 2010 when Rob first approached them with the idea as an independent CPA. USPI was valued at $4.2 billion at the time of the merger while the ASD was valued at $825 million.
As CFO, Rob focused on improving cash flows through managed care contract negotiations, improved collections, service line expansion, cost management, and physician recruitment. The centers comprising the ASD were purchased for $257 million in aggregate consideration. As a result of the improved cash flows stemming from these efforts over a five-year period, Rob was able to contribute the same centers to the USPI merger for $825 million. Having managed hundreds of businesses with thousands of physician-owners, Rob is an experienced consensus builder who relies on empirical data to support his recommendations.
Prior to working with surgery centers, Rob worked with physicians who were looking to align their practices with strategic partners. Rob began his work in transition services in the hospital sector and served in progressively responsible positions from senior financial analyst for a $1 billion company to Assistant Vice President of a Fortune 73 concern. Rob much prefers working with owners of smaller businesses who are both entrepreneurial and passionate about the value they have worked so hard and risked so much to create.
Rob graduated from the University of Notre Dame on May 19, 1985 with a BBA in Accounting. He is a CPA (inactive) in the State of Texas. Rob lives in Central Florida close to his 21-year-old son Robbie and his 26-year-old son Kevin.
